Gujarat: CID Files Case Against Two ‘Bogus’ Political Parties Over Rs 725 Crore Tax Evasion Scam

New Delhi: The Gujarat CID (Crime) has registered two FIRs following complaints by the Income Tax Department against two political parties over alleged bogus donations and tax evasion involving more than Rs 725 crore, the New Indian Express reported.
The Income Tax Department has alleged that the two parties – Swatantrata Abhivyakti Party and the Garib Kalyan Party – received bogus donations of around Rs 519 crore Rs 206 crore through their respective bank accounts.
According to the complaints, taxpayers transferred money to the parties and received donation receipts that were used to claim tax deductions. The money was allegedly returned to the donors in cash after commissions were deducted, the report said.
