Odisha’s Gen Z faces a campus crisis

When yo ung voices gathered at Jantar Mantar recently to demand accountability and fair recruitment, the spark resonated far beyond the national capital. For the youth of Odisha, that wave of student assertion hits close to home. An entire generation in the state is currently caught in a tiring loop of administrative blunders, delayed recruitment notifications, and legal deadlocks.

What was supposed to be a journey of higher learning and career building has turned into a test of survival. Look at the sheer number of roadblocks hitting a young candidate in Odisha today. The Sub-Inspector recruitment exams have been rocked by scam allegations. The Revenue Inspector examination, handed over to controversial testing agencies, faced severe technical glitches that ruined months of hard preparation for thousands of rural aspirants. For those aiming at academia and teaching careers, the wait is even more agonizing. Even for university gold medallists, NET qualifiers, and Ph.D. scholars who have proven their academic merit, the path forward is blocked by procedural paralysis.

The State Selection Board lecturer recruitment has been stuck in court for over two years, leaving qualified candidates waiting date after date while state colleges run with massive faculty shortages. Similarly, thousands of teaching aspirants find themselves stuck due to legal and administrative delays surrounding the Leave Training Reserve (LTR) teacher recruitment process.
