A unique astronomical doubleheader happens Wednesday, Aug. 12 with a partial solar eclipse in the early afternoon and a Perseid meteor shower in the evening. The Peterborough Astronomical Association (PAA) is providing opportunities for the public to view the eclipse at Riverview Park and Zoo and the meteor shower at Harold Town Conservation Area.

“The stars are aligning for this to happen and the Peterborough Astronomical Association with be there to provide a safe and educational opportunity for the public that show up. Both these events are free to attend and are all ages events too,” said Rick Stankiewicz, publicity director, PAA.

View the solar eclipse through safe special eclipse viewers, provided by members of the PAA, at the Riverview Park and Zoo gazebo beginning at noon until 2:27 p.m. when the eclipse ends.
