Soccer has always rewarded visibility.

Goals are visible. Assists are visible. Tackles, shots and completed passes are visible. They create highlights, shape narratives and influence market perception. Often, they also influence salaries, fees and negotiations.

But some valuable contributions happen before the visible event. A midfielder may close a passing lane before an opponent can exploit it. A fullback may secure the space behind the attack, allowing the winger to stay higher. A center back may organize distances so well he avoids the spectacular tackle. None of this appears in the box score. But it can decide whether a team succeeds or falls apart. The “unsung heroes” in soccer have so far been difficult to quantify, or even identify systematically.

That is why hidden player value is no longer only a sporting topic. It is becoming a business issue.

In recruitment, clubs still pay premiums for visible output while undervaluing players who create systemic impact. In squad planning, decision-makers may underestimate players who hold a structure together. In negotiations, agents and players often lack the evidence to explain contributions that do not translate into goals, assists or conventional metrics.
