Is a degree alone enough? Why skills have become essential for employability

New Delhi: A degree was seen as the safest route to employment for years. It was the first filter that employers used. A degree still counts for something in developing academic discipline, subject knowledge, and credibility. But for today’s youth, the question is a practical one: is a degree enough in itself?

Employers are looking for more than mere knowledge. They increasingly want to see how well potential candidates can apply what they have learned. A commerce graduate may know accounting, but can they use digital finance tools? An engineering pass-out may understand theory, but can they build and test a working solution? A media student may study content, but can they present an idea clearly to a real audience?
