I wish you a good new year filled with kindness, good health and plenty of good songs
I was recently driving through the late-autumn countryside of Pennsylvania on my way up to New England. The two-lane road stretching ahead was framed by farmland and trees that had shed their last golden leaves. It was a setting well suited to reflection, paired with a good song.
The music I had on was Fire and Rain by James Taylor. You will likely know it — a gentle melody with familiar words that many of us can relate to. I felt suspended, caught between the rhythm of the song and the rhythm of the fading year. As often happens in moments like that, I was reminded how precious the people and moments in our lives truly are.
A country drive and a good song have a way of opening the door to reflection, and Fire and Rain always carries a quiet weight for me. Its lyrics speak of loss, challenge, and resilience — the invisible threads that stitch together our experiences, both joyful and difficult.
As I drove, my thoughts turned to cherished friends I do not see often enough but think about regularly — kindred spirits. At the same time, thoughts of family rose........
