Opinion: Care-First auto insurance hinders access to justice for Albertans As a personal injury lawyer, I regularly meet injured Albertans when accidents have disrupted their lives, work, and families. So, when I say lawyers across this province are worried, I do not say it lightly. Lawyers are worried.

Opinion: New drainage rules put Alberta's wetlands at risk If you are at all concerned about nature and the benefits we derive from it, or transparency in political decision-making for that matter, it’s been a rather interesting time in Alberta. The latest incident involves wetlands and the quiet rolling back of legislation and policy that was meant to recognize — and conserve — their value to Albertans.

Opinion: Can restrictive covenants save Edmonton’s neighbourhoods? When our city council repealed over 120 neighbourhood plans and policies and opened up blanket zoning across all mature neighbourhoods in the city, residents were led to believe that the 15 macro district plans and a new zoning bylaw would provide for a positive well-planned future for all, guide growth predictably, and ensure consistency across all neighbourhoods.

Opinion: Students with disabilities need inclusion — not segregation Alberta’s government has promised a new direction for inclusive education. The fundamental question is whether students with developmental disabilities should learn alongside their peers in neighbourhood schools or in separate settings. The answer should be guided by evidence, educational expertise, and the values that inform public policy.

Opinion: Alberta separation could dash gains in women’s health As an Albertan born and raised, an epidemiologist, registered nurse and a women’s health researcher, I have spent my career working to improve health care in this province. I understand the frustration many Albertans feel with long waits, difficulty finding a primary care provider and a system that too often seems unable to translate research into care.

Opinion: Alberta Blue Cross delays are failing chronic disease patients Many Albertans, including children, live with chronic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, lupus, hidradenitis suppurativa, multiple sclerosis, giant cell arteritis, vasculitis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease. In the last 20 years, advanced treatments have revolutionized care. They allow people to stay in school, keep their jobs or return to work, start families, and actively contribute to their communities.

Opinion: Is Alberta ready for the next wave of workers with disabilities? This is the story from my early days at the Gateway Association eight years ago. It’s that of a young man whose story is not uncommon. Like many folks experiencing barriers to employment, he found the most sense of acceptance and belonging when he played video games in his basement.
