A close second was the prescription of black coffee at its most malevolent level of caffeination. According to medical authorities, however, nothing really works except sleep, time, and constant hydration. Well, that, and rueful reflection.

Jet lag is another topic where people have advice. Leaping over eight time zones in a single day is a modern problem. Nothing in human evolution prepares us for this.
