Prostate cancer is no laughing matter, and it’s comforting to know our local MPP is pressing the Ontario government to cover the cost of screening for this form of cancer.
I have long wondered why prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing is an expense that isn’t always covered by OHIP.
Bobbi Ann Brady is arguing that the cost of a mammogram for women is covered by OHIP and that it should be no different for men to be PSA tested. One could argue the $42.50 charge for a PSA test is a relatively cheap investment into a man’s health. But that’s not the point. Why should one be free while there is a cost to the other when both are designed to detect the possible presence of cancer?
