Treasury is auto-enrolling 60 million children in Trump Accounts starting this week

Temporary regulations published Tuesday eliminate the opt-in requirement that had kept participation low, particularly among lower-income families

The Treasury Department will begin auto-enrolling millions of children in Trump Accounts as early as Thursday, replacing a structure that required parents or guardians to sign up for the child investment program.

Temporary regulations published Tuesday indicate the move to automatic enrollment would open accounts for more than 60 million additional children under 18. Of the approximately 73 million children the Treasury considers eligible, around 7 million had accounts before Tuesday's announcement.
