7 billion-dollar U.S. lottery jackpots and the stores that sold the winning tickets
Lottery stores behind 7 billion-dollar U.S. jackpots, from an Altadena service center to a Portland Plaid Pantry, and why a past win doesn't change the odds
A lottery jackpot record shows where a winning ticket was sold. It does not show where the next one will be sold. That distinction applies to any list of "luckiest" lottery retailers, including the stores in this one.
The odds of hitting a jackpot are the same at every authorized retailer, according to the ranking this piece draws on. A gas station, a supermarket and a liquor store all sell tickets for the same draw. None of them has any say over which numbers come up. A store's name becomes attached to a record prize because a winning combination was purchased there.
That ranking, published by a U.K. lottery website, lists 20 jackpot events. Ten come from Powerball and 10 from Mega Millions. Each event is tied to the retailer that sold the winning ticket. This article covers seven of those events, focusing on lottery stores that sold billion-dollar jackpots. The prizes range from $1.326 billion to $2.04 billion. One Powerball draw produced two winning tickets, so the seven jackpots involve eight retailers.
The selection spans both national games. Five of the jackpots came from Powerball draws and two from Mega Millions draws. The earliest was drawn in October 2018. The most recent was drawn on December 24, 2025. The retailers sit in seven states, from California and Oregon on the West Coast to Florida and South Carolina in the Southeast. Arkansas, Missouri and Texas complete the list.
The retailer names point to a range of formats. They include a service center, a Publix supermarket and a family-owned market, along with several numbered chain locations.
Each slide below names the store, its street address, the game, the draw date and the advertised jackpot as the ranking reports them. The slides run in order of jackpot size, largest first. That order is a reading aid. It is not a measure of any store's fortune.
Two questions often follow a record sale. One is whether buying a ticket at that store improves a player's chances. The other is why some locations seem to produce more winners than others. The slides address both, alongside the details of each sale.
