Taking the plunge for a great cause

Look at the determination on the faces. They were going to get wet and cold at the BEL Rotary Club’s annual Polar Plunge on Feb. 1 in Ennismore.

Ralphie’s Plaid Plungerz was their team.

The Plungerz raised $6,500, with half of their fundraising going to Rotary and the other half to Right to Heal. Their hearts were there to remember a husband, a father and a friend. Ralph Mann had died a year ago, and the Plungerz were there to celebrate Ralph’s life.

When Rev. Rodney Smith-Merkley was asked what made him jump, he said he was there to support the Manns. The Manns are congregational members of Wesley United, where Rodney serves. He stated that he was glad to be invited and to be jumping for Rotary and the Right to Heal. In addition to that, Smith-Merkley is a bit of a winter weather guy. He does iceboating.
