Karen Grave has not been “doing this very long” and doing the Buckhorn Festival of the Arts was a first.

Living on the far shore of Pigeon Lake and overlooking Boyd Island contributes to her creative energy. Many of her pieces are a result of people she has posed, taken a photograph of and then drawn or then cropped and used bits and pieces of many photos — hands, necks, backs — and pieced them together until she gets what she wants. After developing a strong image to draw, she usually has one with a lot of emotional content. She describes herself as “not a landscapy gal. It is usually a human subject. There is generally a pretty deep meaning to each one of them.”
