Lotus worker, 21, killed in crash likely driving at 100mph, inquest hears
The inquest of Oscar Vatcher was concluded at Suffolk Coroners’ Court on Monday.
The Bury St Edmunds man, who worked as an engineering technician at Lotus in Hethel, died at the scene of a road traffic collision at Rougham in the early hours of December 22, 2023. No other vehicles were involved.
Mr Vatcher was described by his family as an active, upbeat and “extremely funny” young man who charmed everyone he met, a trait he carried with him from babyhood to adulthood.
He was never short of friends, they said, and his kindness and reliability ensured that he made many meaningful relationships throughout his life.
Mr Vatcher had always wanted to work with cars, and joined Lotus car manufacturers in late 2022 as an engineering technician.
He impressed colleagues, and it was said that Mr Vatcher had some experience in driving high-powered vehicles in both the UK and overseas.
On the evening of Thursday, December 21, 2023, Mr Vatcher had been driving a yellow Lotus Emira with friends.
