Auto retail experiences best September performance with 25.37 lakh units: FADA

Automobile sector has recorded an amazing 31.82 per cent year-on-year making for 25,36,920 units in September. However, FADA has noted that September 2025 was affected by the GST 2.0 impeding arrival.

New Delhi: Automobile retail sales in India surged 31.82 per cent year-on-year to a record 25,36,920 units in September, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). Five of the six major vehicle categories recorded their highest-ever September sales, while overall retail volumes also grew 4.69 per cent compared with August.

The strong September performance pushed automobile retail sales in the first half of FY27 to a record 1,55,12,319 units, representing a 20.77 per cent increase over the corresponding period last year.

Still, FADA has urged caution while interpreting the sharp yearly growth. The association said September 2025 had an unusually weak base as many customers postponed purchases ahead of the implementation of GST 2.0 on September 22, 2025. As a result, FADA has called the September 2026 growth figure the “most base-distorted print of the year”.
