Your iPhone may soon lock itself during a snatch theft

Apple is reportedly developing an iPhone AutoLock system to detect snatch-and-grab theft and lock the device. The feature appears in iOS 27.2 beta 2 code but is inaccessible, unannounced and subject to change.

Apple appears to be developing an iPhone security feature that could detect a snatch-and-grab theft and lock the device automatically. References found in iOS 27.2 beta 2 describe an internal system called AutoLock, according to multiple reports.

The feature is not available to beta users and Apple has not announced it. Its name, behaviour and release plans may change, so the details should be treated as an early look at unfinished software rather than a confirmed iOS feature.
