Police were called to the Memorial Park in North Walsham just after 7am on Thursday, February 12, following reports that a body had been discovered.

Emergency services attended, and a girl in her late teens – now known to be Miss Morgan – was confirmed dead at the scene and her next of kin were informed.

At the time, a spokeswoman for Norfolk Police said: "The death is not believed to be suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Eyewitnesses reported seeing several police and ambulance vehicles in and around the park from around 8am.

Officers also put up a cordon around some play equipment and the entrance to the park was cordoned off.

The town’s parkrun was later cancelled, with organisers posting online: "The North Walsham parkrun team have taken the decision to cancel this week's parkrun out of respect for recent events."

The route for the event on Saturdays includes laps of the North Walsham High School playing field and the Memorial Park.

Many have paid tribute online and sent condolences to Miss Morgan's family and friends.

During the inquest opening, her date and place of birth was given as August 10, 2008 in Norwich.

She lived at Gooch Close, North Walsham, and her occupation was listed as that of a student.

Ms Thompson added: “Her cause of death is noted as hanging.

“Evidence is being gathered from those concerned with Courtney and the family are invited to provide a pen portrait.”

The full inquest has been listed to take place at the court on Tuesday, June 9.
