Opening of second new hospital for Norfolk delayed despite rebuild pledge
The replacement for the James Paget University Hospital (JPH) at Gorleston was expected to be treating its first patients in 2032.
But health chiefs say it will not now be ready until the following year to ensure it conforms with the government's so-called "Hospital 2.0" model for modular buildings which can easily be expanded if extra capacity is needed.
Rupert Lowe, the Restore Britain MP for Great Yarmouth, said: "This is unacceptable - the hospital needs major work, and it needs it now.
