Canadian pension risk transfer market growing as plan sponsors’ funded positions improve: report
Canadian annuity purchases by defined benefit pension plan sponsors reached $1.5 billion in the second quarter of 2026, pushing the year-to-date total to $1.9 billion, according to a pension risk report from Telus Health.
The recorded volume of transactions for this year is higher than the same period for 2025 ($0.8 billion) but lower compared to 2024 ($2.6 billion), which ended up being a record-breaking year in the market with $11 billion worth of risk transfer deals.
