Our Biggest Problems Have the Easiest Solutions

While America under Donald Trump is inarguably doing better in many ways than it has in many years, we still have problems the smart set insists are insoluble. They are not insoluble. They are easy. That is why you are not allowed to talk about them honestly. Say the quiet part out loud, and you are racist, sexist, transphobic, xenophobic, and every other -ist and -phobe that turns you into an officially bad person. You are supposed to shut up and bear the burden of other people’s deviance.

Fortunately, we have a guy in the White House who does not care what they say. Donald Trump is already doing something about some of this. Other problems endure. And here is the part the elite especially do not want discussed: The solutions are easy.

Some problems are complex. These are not. The answers are clear. The consequences can be expensive. They will make leftists scream. They require us to stop being nice and start being real. But the answers themselves are easy. These problems persist not because there is no solution. They persist because we have chosen, as a society, to let them persist.

It is on us. We will not push the easy button.

Take three of the supposedly intractable ones, starting with crime.

Crime wrecks quality of life. A civilized country is supposed to be secure. While crime has come down some — if you believe the crime stats coming out of big blue city police departments, which I don’t — we still have predators on the street and judges who let them walk. Down in Florida, a punk doing 90 in a 45 slammed into a van and killed an elderly couple who spent their lives working, obeying the law, and generally being the kind of Americans we used to assume were the point of the country. Then he walked. Then he got popped again, on a suspended........
