Spyware designed to eavesdrop and extract sensitive information was recently discovered on the phones of two senior officials in Gadi Eisenkot’s election campaign, Channel 12 reported Wednesday.

Due to the sensitivity of the information handled by the campaign for Eisenkot’s opposition Yashar party, campaign headquarters in recent weeks has implemented a strict security protocol, mandating daily cybersecurity checks and phone scans for some campaign staffers, including its most senior officials.

The malicious software was discovered in two separate cases during those scans, which were conducted by a private security firm hired by the campaign, according to the report. Eisenkot’s own devices were not compromised, it added.

The malware included wiretapping software and activity trackers, the Hebrew outlet reported.

Despite the apparent breaches, Eisenkot’s campaign has not filed a complaint with the police, Channel 12 said, and instead opted to bolster its cybersecurity measures and continue conducting daily scans of senior officials’ devices.

Channel 12 did not report who may have been responsible for installing the spyware or when the devices were compromised.
