Israel Needs a Decapitation Deterrence Doctrine
President Trump recently stated on Truth Social that he has already directed the U.S. military “to fire one thousand missiles” and sustain operations to decimate and destroy Iran if the Mullahs assassinate him. This position stems from Israel’s intelligence sharing about a fresh Iranian plot to eliminate the U.S. President.
Vice President Vance, who would hold final authority, has shown he lacks the resolve for sustained military action against Iran. He has repeatedly favored diplomatic accommodation and has repeatedly displayed greater sympathy toward regional Muslim and Arab power centers than the iron determination needed to confront Tehran and its proxies. Therefore, if President Trump is eliminated, Vance’s America will almost certainly do nothing of consequence.
In today’s Middle East, by contrast, the State of Israel cannot afford such paralysis. The Knesset must enact a Fundamental Self-Preservation Statute as a Basic Law. This act would treat the assassination of Israel’s Prime Minister or President by Iran, Hezbollah, or any other state or non-state actor as an automatic trigger requiring immediate and sustained response. Hezbollah’s October 19, 2024, drone strike on Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Caesarea residence, which penetrated Israeli airspace and cracked a bedroom window, already demonstrated that such threats are real.
The legislation would activate the IDF’s Sustained Impairment Campaign. This multi-domain framework would combine precision airstrikes, cyber and electromagnetic attacks, maritime and ground maneuvers, and psychological warfare.
