The Gaza Proxy Trap: Why Netanyahu’s Tactical Failures Fuel European Hate
The current strategy of the Netanyahu cabinet—characterized by a reliance on opaque, reactionary, and ethically compromised security measures—is not merely failing in the immediate theater of conflict. It is actively eroding Israel’s international standing and, perhaps more insidiously, fueling a resurgence of antisemitism across Europe that is increasingly inseparable from the political conduct of our current government.
A recent report by The Times of Israel underscores the absurdity of the current approach in Gaza. For over a year, Israel has been arming and supporting disparate, often criminal, militias in the Gaza Strip. The stated, albeit vague, intention is to counter Hamas. Yet, these groups—operating as gun-toting gangs with no real political legitimacy or popular support—have achieved almost nothing in terms of dislodging Hamas. Instead, as expert Michael Milshtein aptly puts it, Gaza has become the “capital of Israeli fantasies.”
