Around the time Tom Trbojevic unsuccessfully tried to hand back some of his pay cheque to Manly, the superstar fullback was hiving off cash to another cause close to his heart.
In a separate display of selflessness, Trbojevic passed on some of the earnings he made via a ratchet clause in his contract to little brother Ben. Only family pips football as the top priority for “Tommy Turbo”.
Yet, perhaps his most benevolent act was taking a pay cut of about $400,000 for next season to help assuage the guilt he felt for missing so much football. It can be said that he is both selfless and self-aware. Sadly, another cruel injury has struck, making his value on the open market a major talking point. Ditto Latrell Mitchell.
Should they both remain unsigned beyond November 1, you would ordinarily expect a bidding war for their services.
