Q: My husband and I have been married for about two years, and he recently lost his job. He was making quite a bit more than I am, so now my income is covering our rent and only some of our household bills. Because he hadn’t been at this job very long, there wasn’t much severance, and his EI is going to run out soon. He’s been taking money out of his RRSP to keep up with his own bills, like his car loan, a small personal loan, and his credit cards. He says he’s applying for jobs, but honestly, it doesn’t really seem like he is anymore. He seems really down and unmotivated, and I’m starting to worry that he’s just given up. When we got together, his credit wasn’t great, so we’ve mostly kept our finances separate. I paid off and closed the one joint credit card we had, and I don’t have any debt myself. That’s the only reason we’re getting by right now. But it’s stressful, I’m worried about how we’ll afford groceries next month, or even next week. What can I do? ~Ashley
