As President Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping wrap up their summit in Washington on Friday, some GOP lawmakers are bristling at the lavish treatment Xi received as the nation grapples with economic pressures ahead of the midterms.

The leaders’ meeting at the White House on Thursday touched on trade, artificial intelligence and the war in Iran. Trump also showed his Chinese counterpart around the White House grounds, including his new helipad and ballroom construction.

They are expected to visit the National Archives on Friday before Xi departs.

Meanwhile, Senate Republicans on Thursday blocked another war powers resolution seeking to end Trump’s military operations in Iran. Rising gas prices tied to the conflict and increased bond yields are squeezing the economy ahead of November. Insiders can read more here from The Hill’s Niall Stanage.

Plus, the administration’s feud with the media is not over, despite a court ruling that directed the White House to restore access to CNN, MS Now and Politico. What happens next with the TV pool — which includes CNN, ABC News, CBS News, NBC News and Fox News — is still in limbo.

Xi wrapping up DC visit with trip to see Constitution, Bill of Rights

Chinese President Xi Jinping will close out his first state visit to the U.S. in over a decade on Friday with a tour of the National Archives alongside President Trump.

Senate Republican suggests Trump should take Xi to Panda Express

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) said Thursday he would like to see President Trump take Chinese leader Xi Jinping to Panda Express during the Chinese leader’s state visit to Washington.

“I won’t be a bit surprised if he decides at one point to say, ‘President Xi, let’s go visit Panda Express and see what you think of their broccoli beef,’” Lee said during an appearance on Fox Business’s “Kudlow.”........
