Speaker Johnson meets with Trump amid FISA struggles over Pulte

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is meeting with President Trump Tuesday morning as Democratic outrage about Trump tapping Bill Pulte as the acting Director of National Intelligence (DNI) endangers reauthorization of the nation’s foreign spy powers set to expire at the end of the week.

On the way out of the U.S. Capitol for the meeting, Johnson did not directly answer a question about whether he would ask Trump to name someone else to the DNI post in order to reauthorize the program.

“I’m going to go have a private conversation with him and his team on a number of topics,” Johnson said. 

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) separately told reporters that Johnson is at the White House to discuss the path to reauthorizing the nation’s foreign spy powers.

Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which authorizes surveillance of foreign targets, expires Friday. The House passed a FISA reauthorization bill........
