Sorsby won’t play for Texas Tech after legal fight
Quarterback Brendan Sorsby, who a judge recently ruled was eligible to compete this fall after entering a treatment program for gambling addiction, has decided not to play for Texas Tech University and instead pursue a career in the NFL.
The announcement was made Monday by Cody Campbell, the billionaire megadonor and chairman of the Texas Tech board of regents who was bankrolling Sorsby’s $5 million in name, image and likeness (NIL) endorsement money this season.
“This decision was made with Brendan and his family and is purely an output of practical analysis of the situation,” Campbell wrote in an open letter. “Brendan and Texas Tech stand on very solid and legitimate legal ground, but he faces a June 22nd deadline to be eligible to enter the NFL’s supplemental draft, and there is no practical way to resolve all the various pending legal disputes and ensure........
