House leaves town with FISA set to expire
Happy Thursday! I cannot get enough of the social media posts of tourists coming to the U.S. for the World Cup and experiencing American culture. Like: trying Ranch dressing for the first time, seeing the magnitude of a Buc-eeâs and experiencing a Portilloâs hot dog and the milkshake mixed with an entire slice of cake. The portion sizes must be overwhelming.
Some brands have even jumped onto the trend. Arbyâs challenged Europeans to âconquer Meat Mountainâ while theyâre here.
We go to Europe and lose weight. Meanwhile, theyâre going to return home having gained the Tourist 20. Â

The House leaves town. That means FISA will expire:Â
The House tried one last time this morning to extend the U.S.âs warrantless spy powers before Fridayâs deadline â and they failed. That means Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) is set to expire on Friday. Â
What happened this morning?: House Republicans failed to secure enough Democratic votes to pass a short-term extension of FISA. This would have just punted the deadline by a few weeks. However, House lawmakers are now headed out of town for recess without a deal.Â
Why most Democrats refused to help: Democrats are furious that President Trump handed the job of acting director of national intelligence (DNI) to Bill Pulte, a loyalist with no intelligence experience. Â
The final vote: 198-218. Nineteen Republicans voted against the bill and seven Democrats voted âyes.â Â
