(NEXSTAR) – Another round of payments is about to go out in the landmark $725 million class action settlement over Facebook users’ privacy issues.
A U.S. District Court in California issued an order approving a second round of payments in order to make use of uncashed settlement funds. Eligible recipients are now being notified to look out for a second payment starting on June 9.
The payments are expected to go out “in batches” over a four-week period, and people will be notified three to four days before their settlement payment is issued.
The first round of payments went out in September 2025. An estimated 250 million people were eligible for a piece of the massive settlement – basically everyone who had a Facebook account between 2007 and 2022 could file – but you had to file a claim to get a payout. Each person’s payment size depended on how long their account was active.
In the end, about 19 million claims were filed and validated, according to recently filed court documents. Before any money went out to the 19 million eligible people, a large chunk of the $725 million was taken off the top for legal........
