MARTEL MAXWELL: Beckham family feud leaves mums everywhere pondering THAT phrase

There’s a saying that no mum of boys hopes is true.

“A son is a son ‘till he takes a wife, but a daughter is a daughter all her life.”

It summarises a belief of some, that a married son’s primary loyalty shifts to his wife, while a daughter remains more connected to her parents.

It’s depressing and not true, was the view I chose to take – not least because I have three sons.

But after this week’s news, I won’t be alone in pondering the phrase.
