We desperately need a modern day version of 'home ec,' but it won't be easy
My childhood is filled with memories of visiting my mother's home economics classroom at West Seneca West High School. I loved poking around the refrigerator, sneaking leftovers and pumping the pedal of a sewing machine to make the needle move. I grasped what she was teaching in those rooms, but she had another classroom with desks and chairs, and a chalkboard filled with words about jobs and budgets.
