Snowfall brings memories of days gone by

I think it was a lovely sight to which I awoke on that early Sunday morning.

As I stood looking out my bedroom window I was taken by the contrast of the snow against the bright orange and yellow leaves on the neighbour’s maple tree. Those leaves hold on for dear life and are always the last to fall.

Dawn was beginning to break but no sound, car, dog or human, broke the quiet. I was most likely the only one appreciating this first invitation to winter. When I came downstairs the bold, riotous red of the burning bush out my front window was quieted, subdued by the lace-like layer. I stood in awe of nature’s beauty. Soon cars, trucks and horse drawn carriages broke my reverie. A dog began to bark and another answered and soon several were in full conversation.

As I waited for the coffee my mind wandered to the days of sledding and skating on the pond at the home farm in LaSalette. We would come inside soaking wet from hours of building forts,........
