Young readers delighted with bunches of books
The Kiwanis Club of Rodney recently distributed new age-appropriate books to all students in junior and senior kindergarten, Grade 4 and Grade 7 at Aldborough public school and St. Mary’s Catholic elementary school.
This distribution is part of the club’s ongoing project to support and improve literacy levels for all young children in our area.
There are two strands to this project.
Kiwanians partner with London’s Investing in Children to circulate gently used books to any and all children and families in our area through our Blue Boxes for Books book sharing program. Two book drives a year are held locally, in addition to constant intake of donated books. The books are processed and sorted by Investing in Children, then disseminated to various sites, 40 books per box.
Children select books from one of our sites within the area: Aldborough public school, Dutton-Dunwich public school, St. Mary’s Catholic elementary school, Early ON sites, FIO hair salon in West Lorne, Natterjack and Talbot Trails Restaurant at Eagle, The Wild Goat and Tokie’s Variety in Rodney, as well as the West Elgin Community Health........
