The 3 Self-Defeating Thoughts of Struggling Adult Children

When parents contact me for coaching about struggles their adult children are having, they tend to share a lot about the actions they observe from them. It is heartbreaking to see their adult children in pain and for that pain to come back to the parents in the form of their adult children shutting down or lashing out.

For example, I hear things such as:

"He stays clammed up, looking angry at the world and won't communicate."

"She appears to have lost interest in our family as a whole."

"He seems rudderless, just drifting along and refuses to get a job."

"She tells me I am totally to blame for why she screams at me."

"He will talk about anything except how he really feels."

I empathize with such parents, who find it heart-wrenching to see their adult children struggle. My coaching work involves helping them discover ways to understand their adult children better and connect with them in ways that lead to calm, constructive conversations and........
