For years, Pakistan’s warnings about terrorist sanctuaries across the Afghan border were often dismissed as part of a complicated regional dispute. Today, however, those concerns are receiving growing international recognition. Recent statements by European Union Special Envoy Gilles Bertrand and United Kingdom Special Representative Richard Lindsay have reinforced Pakistan’s long-standing position that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) remains a serious threat to regional security and that states have the right to defend themselves against terrorism.

The importance of these remarks lies in the fact that they come from senior international diplomats rather than Pakistani officials. In separate statements and interviews, both envoys acknowledged that the TTP continues to benefit from support networks operating inside Afghanistan.
