A.I. now writes about 90 percent of Tinder's new code, picks users' profile photos and is about to make its recommendations update in seconds. But nearly half of young singles view A.I. in romance negatively.

Modern dating is increasingly shaped by A.I. Top dating apps like Tinder, Hinge and Bumble are all experimenting with A.I.-driven features ranging from matching algorithms and A.I. assistants to conversation starters and profile photo selection. Behind the scenes, meanwhile, A.I. coding agents are also changing how the apps themselves are built.

Over the past year, Tinder, the world’s biggest dating app, has become increasingly A.I.-pilled. “We’re using A.I. in every stage of the dating journey,” Vinay Kuruvila, CTO of Tinder, tells Observer in a video interview. At parent company Match Group, internal A.I. spending was budgeted at roughly $5 million at the start of 2026 and is now expected to reach about $10 million for the year, according to the company.
