Bentley Torcal revealed with over 600 km of range; India debut in mid-2027

Bentley has revealed its first ever electric vehicle, the Torcal. It sits on the PPE architecture and can produce 888 hp and 1,350Nm that makes it hit 0-100 kph in 2.9 seconds.

New Delhi: For more than a century, Bentley has been about powerful engines. It has walked from supercharged Blowers and V8s to the company’s legendary W12. Which is why the Torcal is a big shift from that image. It is Bentley’s fourth model portfolio and its first fully electric vehicle, placed below the Bentayga. Unlike the rest of the range, it will not be offered with a petrol engine.

Bentley feels the Torcal is more than just another addition to its line-up. The brand calls it a design and technology blueprint for future Bentleys, regardless of their powertrain. Robin Page’s team at Bentley’s Crewe headquarters designed the Torcal, with the challenge of creating an electric vehicle that still looks unmistakably like a Bentley. It is 50 mm lower and 120 mm shorter than the standard-wheelbase Bentayga. However, its wheelbase stretches beyond three metres. At around five metres long, the Torcal has relatively short overhangs and a long bonnet that preserves Bentley’s familiar proportions.

Because an EV doesn’t need a conventional grille for engine cooling, Bentley has reinterpreted one of its most recognisable design elements. The Torcal features an illuminated grille with crystal-style diamond elements positioned behind a clear polycarbonate panel. The front end also draws inspiration from the Continental T, although the treatment is considerably more futuristic thanks to its slim lighting elements.

The side profile is kept rather clean, with minimal creasing. The........
