Unemployment rate crawls down to 5% in August helped by rural sector gains, shows survey

According to the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) data, the overall unemployment rate among individuals of 15 years and more crawled down to 5% in August. The unemployment rate was 5.1% in July.

Kolkata: The overall unemployment rate among individuals who are of 15 years and above has inched down from 5.1% in July to 5% in August, according to Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) findings. The unemployment rate was also recorded at 5.1% in August 2025. In almost all cases, the unemployment rate went down for females, rather than males. The picture was also not uniform in the rural and urban sector. While in the rural sector, unemployment rate declined from 4.5% to 4.1% month-on-month, unemployment rate in the cities remained almost stable at 6.8% in August compared........
