China-Bhutan border talks raise India’s concerns over Siliguri Corridor, Doklam

China and Bhutan are accelerating negotiations to resolve their long-standing border dispute. India is reportedly concerned about the strategic implications of the talks, particularly around Doklam and the Siliguri Corridor, a vital link between mainland India and the Northeast.

New Delhi: China and Bhutan are moving ahead with negotiations to settle their long-standing border dispute, a development being closely watched by India because of its potential security implications near the Siliguri Corridor.

The two countries concluded the 16th round of their Expert Group Meeting on the boundary issue in Thimphu on October 15. In a joint statement, they said they had reviewed progress in negotiations and agreed to build on the ‘positive momentum’ in implementing a three-step roadmap to resolve the dispute.

The discussions also covered the next phase of boundary delimitation and demarcation. However, no final boundary settlement has been announced.
