How can you make sure you reach the goals you set yourself for the day, the week, or the quarter? Begin by asking one very basic question: How much time do you have to achieve those goals?

It sounds stupidly obvious. And yet, a series of 12 experiments at the University of Virginia (UVA) shows that people who budget their time accomplish more of what they set out to do. In some cases, they also feel happier about their accomplishments.

Why does this work so well? Because we rarely have just one goal for the day, or just one........
