As we approach the end of another year, it’s tempting to focus on the usual seasonal markers — shorter days, the rush to wrap up projects, and the anticipation for many of a decent break away from work over the holidays.

But this year, in amongst the things competing for attention in our businesses, there’s another item that deserves our attention, namely four major UK Government consultations under the Employment Rights Bill, each with the potential to reshape the way we work in the engineering sector.

These consultations, closing between December 2025 and January 2026, are not just bureaucratic exercises. They are the early blueprints of legislation that could come into force as soon as April next year. And we all know that in business planning timelines, April might just as well be next week.
