'Trumpism is not welcome in Scotland'
Last week, Donald Trump landed on Scottish soil with a to-do list including stoking hostility to migrants, waging war on renewable energy (or "windmills" in his childish language), and playing golf while his allies continue to slaughter starving Palestinians.
But Scotland rose to the challenge, with protests quickly organised in Edinburgh and Aberdeen in response to the visit.
People came with a clear message: Trump is not welcome here.
I attended the rally in Edinburgh and saw first-hand the anger and frustration people are feeling.
One girl’s placard summed it up with perfect simplicity: "bad man, go away".
It’s clear that Scotland rejects Trump’s racism, misogyny, climate denial and more.
In an astonishing failure to read the room, just hours after Trump landed in Scotland, the First Minister announced that £180,000 of public funding would go to the 2025 Nexo Championship, to be hosted at Trump’s golf resort.
I saw comments from many people, including longstanding SNP members, expressing outright embarrassment at John Swinney’s attempt to placate Trump.
