Sentencing 35-year-old Ryan Leggett, Judge Martyn Levett said the attack happened after his partner returned home from work early and found him naked in bed with a another man and a plate of cocaine in front of them.

He described the attack, which left the woman with life threatening injuries, as "deliberate, calculated and cowardly" and said he was satisfied Leggett had left her to die after stabbing her eight times and taking her phone to prevent her calling for help.

He said he believed Leggett hoped she would die to "save his own embarrassment".

"You are an unpredictable and dangerous man and prone to terrible outbursts of violence after taking drugs," said the judge.

He said Leggett had carried out the attack to silence the victim to "stop her telling anyone what he'd been up to".
