Restored 'ghost pond' remains full of water despite searing summer drought

The long-lost pond on Stephen Richardson's farm near Wymondham was initially identified from a tiny hand-drawn reed on a farm map dating back to 1800.

After detailed hydrological investigations, it was dug out to its original level as part of the Wymondham Habitat Bank project, in partnership with ecologists at Environment Bank.

Despite this summer's record-breaking heatwaves and drought, the historic pond is still full of water and has already attracted wildlife including pond skaters, dragonflies and naturally recolonising aquatic plants.
