How research on Norfolk's coast could shape future flood defences around the world
The Wash is the focus of a new study into how salt marshes could protect communities as sea levels rise and storms become more severe.
An international team from the University of East London and Waseda University in Tokyo are conducting fieldwork using drones and advanced surveying technology to study the role of natural coastal habitats in flood resilience.
Dr Ravindra Jayaratne, a coastal engineering specialist with more than 25 years’ experience in flood modelling, is leading the project.
He said: "The Wash is one of the most important coastal environments in Europe and home to one of the largest and most dynamic intertidal systems in north-west Europe.
