According to UNESCO’s conception of an AI-competent teacher, the contemporary educational process is no longer shaped by the professor alone. Rather, it emerges from the dynamic interaction between the professor, artificial intelligence, and the student. But formerly, the professor was the unique and central figure in the classroom, functioning as the primary source of information and knowledge and helping students develop skills. Today, however, this is no longer entirely the case. Although the professor still occupies a central position in the classroom, he can no longer simply behave as a “sage on the stage”; instead, he must increasingly become a “guide on the side.” The delivery of information and access to already available knowledge are now largely facilitated by artificial intelligence. Students can access enormous amounts of information almost instantly and can even use AI to explain, summarise, organise, and memorise it.

Consequently, they do not necessarily need a teacher simply to describe or transmit information to them. This means that the teacher’s role is shifting from merely providing information to supervising, evaluating, interpreting, contextualising, and developing critical judgment among students regarding the information available online. In such a scenario, should we accept that the professor is going to be replaced by artificial intelligence in the classroom? Should we believe the much-touted claims that university teaching........
