A multitude welcomes Las Leonas to Argentina after World Cup win
The Argentine women’s national field hockey team, better known as Las Leonas, received a massive welcome upon returning home after winning the 2026 World Cup.
Argentina beat the Netherlands 3-1 in a shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation time on Saturday, defeating the reigning champions to win its third World Cup.
The flight carrying the champions back from Amsterdam touched down on Argentine soil at 5:50 a.m. Even before its arrival, Argentine flags and hockey sticks had already taken over the hall at Buenos Aires’ Ministro Pistarini (Ezeiza) International Airport.
More than 200 fans arrived to welcome the team, filling the hall with chants and songs that erupted as soon as Las Leonas captain María José “Majo” Granatto came through the doors, escorted by several police officers........
