We’re nearly a month into the start of the new financial year, which (hopefully) means you’ve given at least a little bit of thought to your tax return. Some of you might be like me, filing it as soon as practical so you can get that sweet ATO money, or you might still be getting your receipts together, or waiting for your accountant to get around to it.

Regardless, you might have at least some idea of the size of the refund you’ll get from the tax office, and you might even be starting to think of what to do with it. The average size of a tax refund over the past few years has been about $2300, which, as someone who’s lucky to get a few hundred bucks back, seems extremely high, but that’s fine, I’m not bitter about it.

Obviously, there are also a number of people who don’t get refunds because they owe money to the tax office, or they don’t pay any income tax (must be nice!).
