Many Canadian employees have a furry family member at home, yet only 3.72 per cent of Canadian pets have health insurance — 5.64 per cent of dogs and just 1.91 per cent of cats, according to a recent report by the North American Pet Health Insurance Association.

It found 7.6 million pets are covered across North America, with a 3.9 per cent jump in Canada year over year. It also noted the most frequent claims are for conditions that are highly relatable to any pet owner. The top reasons insured cats and dogs visited the vet in 2025 included gastrointestinal issues, ear infections, skin conditions, anxiety, dental disease and kidney disease.
